Responsible Play (NZ)
Guidance for people in New Zealand. If gambling stops being fun or feels hard to control, support is available.
Set limits before you start
- Money: choose a fixed budget you can afford to lose; never chase losses; avoid using credit or borrowing.
- Time: set a start/stop time; take breaks; avoid gambling when tired, stressed, or under the influence.
- Reality check: outcomes are random; no system can guarantee wins.
- Age: gambling is for adults—do not allow anyone under 18 to access your account or device.
Recognising possible harm
Common warning signs include spending more than planned, hiding play, chasing losses, neglecting work/whānau, feeling anxious or irritable when not gambling, or using gambling to cope with emotions.
